The work “Symbolic Communities: Imaginary Identification, Pacts and Links in Telejournalism” by Virgínia Sá Barreto is the result of a doctoral research in which the author problematizes the meanings of the term community in the speeches of the production team of the community news programs of Rede Globo's affiliates. Television. This type of telejournalism is prescribed by this Network to the midday newspapers of its affiliates in the sense of being produced with a “community-oriented” focus. The author endeavors to analyze the meaning processes generated by these speeches, collected in depth interviews, based on resources from the Interpretative Anthropology conceived by Geertz and elements of Discourse Analysis.
